It is projected that the prevalence will increase 23% by 2010. Approximately one-half of all individuals with diabetes are unaware of their disease. An even larger number of Americans have mildly elevated glucose levels, termed Impaired Glucose Tolerance. Both of these disorders are associated with an increased risk for heart disease and strokes.
