Varanasi, 10 Jan, 2008 : The violence in India’s northern Varanasi has took an ugly turn on the 10 th of January after agitated party workers of the main opposition, Samajwadi Party of Uttar Pradesh clashed with the local police. The members of the student wing of Samajwadi Party Samajwadi Chatra Dal, shouted slogans against the government. Reportedly, the police had to resort to baton charge in an attempt to stop the violent demonstration of the party workers.
