The purpose of this event was to: * Raise awareness of the coal mining industry's impact on education in Appalachia. * Explore strategies to fund new schools situated away from areas affected by mining operations. * Visit Marsh Fork Elementary School in the Coal River Valley of WV - a seeping dam sits just 400 yards from the school's playground, along with a silo which loads powdered coal onto trains and sprays it with a chemical binding agent. * Honor Ann Porter, a champion and a friend to Marsh Fork Elementary, whose passion and conviction continue to motivate us today. sierraclub.org challengewv.org crmw.net thecolemanfoundation.org
