Here is the Rocktron Maxe Guitar Preamp. The is preamp has the most brutal distortion! It is a "tone monster"! Why? Do you love DISTORTION? It has absolutely BRUTAL distortion! The EQ is VERY responsive and works in conjunction with the built-in aural exciter. When going for a tone you need to adjust the eq section and the "phase" and "mix" knobs of the exciter together. It also has built-in Hush Noise Reduction that is fully adjustable. Here is my signal chain: 1976 Gibson "The Paul" LesPaul (EMG-85 bridge pickup) into Rocktron Maxe into Zoom G1 (for delay and reverb only) into Aux In (6V6 power amp section) of Crate Stealth 50 watt 112 combo amp.
