Barbara Moses, Ph.D., a career coach in Canada, talks about the different ways men and women feel about midlife and the transition to retirement.  She has found that men are so socialized to working and achieving that many never make the transition until they are forced to.  For women, there are more changes in their lives at that stage, and they tend to be more reflective.  Men never ask themselves "Am I happy?  Am I engaged?".  This is more natural for women to do.  Data from thousands of people who have used her online "Career Advisor" shows that women at midlife want to connect, and to be challenged, whereas men at that stage are saying "Let me do my own thing, don't bug me."
