Slow-motion movies of animals are often wonderful. Such movies reveal previously unavailable information about the complexity and dynamics of motion that we have seen only in fast-paced real time. The early slow-motion work of Marey and Muybridge dealt largely with animal motion. Marey published The Flight of Birds; and Muybridge, Animal Locomotion. High-speed cameras (now relatively inexpensive) provide all sorts of fresh and interesting slow-motion views of sports, your dogs or cats, dance, water--as well as the usual explosions, bullets through apples, breaking eggs.
