RFID and NFC are promising technologies to build the so called Internet of things and offer innovative services and original forms of mobile HCI to a wider range of users in the general public. We present here a novel touch based remote grocery shopping service, better addressing diverse needs and capabilities of heterogeneous food and grocery shoppers in the real world. Existing studies demonstrate that, for a number of mobile scenarios, touch is the preferred interaction method due to its highly intuitive nature. We describe design and implementation of a first RFID and NFC based prototype covering the whole grocery shopping process and we present the experimental evaluation of the prototype's touch based mobile HCI. Through a comparative analysis with similar Web based shopping service, the user study confirms the promise of an accessible, intuitive and robust form of mobile HCI.
