Pieces of ancient wood recovered at Izumozaki, Niigata beach. The wood hardened on its outer skin and became like a rock, however its inside absorbed water so much it can be squeezed like a sponge, and can be broken easily by human hands. These ancient wood pieces are known to have been accumulated below the seabed for long periods, but how did they appear at the bottom of sea ? During a series of earthquakes earlier last week, seabed sand layers were shaken and caused liquefaction, which brought the wood pieces to rise and appear above the surface of bottom of the sea. ------------------------ One of all high school baseball tournament ("Ko-shi-en") match was held last week, one of the spectators at the park was videotaping a local game between Kashiwazaki High and Kamo High when the first strike of the earthquack shook the baseball field. This week, they played the game they were interrupted - Kashiwazaki high won the game by 10-3, a cold game at 7th inning. A baseball team leader of Kashiwazaki high said "We continued to play our best, so I would also like everyone who suffered from the earthquake to watch us play and live strongly through the crisis."
