Will they "punch George W. Bush's ticket" out o... Will they "punch George W. Bush's ticket" out of Washington? We'll see... :-) In this video, I invite Senators Clinton and Obama to an Amtrak station in Bucks County, PA, that has seen its riders decimated by bad Bush administration rail policy. With 650 free, empty parking spaces just 65 minutes outside Manhattan, this station can't give away its parking because of a $5,000 increase in daily job commuter fares on Amtrak since the enactment of a 2005 law that essentially destroyed Northeast Corridor Amtrak job commuting, sending people at this station, built for inerstate, inter-city commuting, into cars and out of the state. The station also sits adjacent to another venue of interest, the shrine of Saint Katharine Drexel, the only Roman Catholic saint ever born a U.S citizen. (Saint Elizabeth Seton -- often called the first American-born saint -- was actually born a British citizen in 1774, for you sticklers. :-) She used to own the station's land, and used the station to aid the cause of Native Americans and African Americans a hundred years ago. Anyhow, her shrine located next door is worth a visit, too. In protest over the law that raised commuting fares $5,000+, I used an Amtrak fare loophole that violated the "commuter-killer law" to buy President Bush a $6.30 Amtrak ticket all the way from Washington to New York City on one of the hottest commuting trains. The ticket was bought to demonstrate the hypocrisy of raising fares $20/day and more on unsuspecting commuters (which drove most of them off the trains) while allowing cheap joy rides, far cheaper than commuter tickets, to still be sold. I've invited Senators Clinton and Obama to symbolically and literally come and "punch George W. Bush's ticket" out of Washington. ;-) The Cornwells Heights station, located in Bensalem, PA, one mile outside the Philadelphia city limits along the Northeast Corridor, is a great venue for speaking about opportunities to improve our transportation, energy, and environmental policies so that a great station like Cornwells Heights doesn't go to waste.
