Launching an appeal for a global jobs compact in Geneva, the ILO said simply pouring money into the world’s financial institutions would not promote a genuine upturn, and it warned of a serious labour market recession. Reporter: Imogen Foulkes Bosnia welcomes a new international peace envoy The task of managing tensions between Muslims, Croats and Serbs in post-war Bosnia Herzegovina is certainly not an easy one. And that task is now the responsibilty of the international community’s new peace envoy, Valentin Inzko. The Austrian diplomat takes up office as High Representative to Bosnia this week, following in the footsteps of Slovak diplomat Miroslav Lajcak. The international community had been planned to close down the office of the High Representative. But increased rivalry between Bosnia's two ethnically based regions -- the Muslim-Croat federation and the Serb Republic -- has put that on hold. So what are the main challenges facing the new envoy? Interview : Rob Turner/ Marko Prelec, senior analyst at the International Crisis Group in the capital Sarajevo Can schools bridge the deep divisions in Bosnian society? More than a decade after the end of the war in Bosnia, the divisions are still running deep between Serbs, Croats and Bosnian Muslims. Whether it’s drafting a common constitution, working together in the police or effectively cooperating in state institutions the list of contentious issues seems endless. Education is another example. Bosnia Herzegovina does not have one common ministry of education, but 12 education ministers and just as many school curriculums and textbooks. So, what can be done to bridge these divisions in Bosnian schools? And what role do history books and history teachers play in reconciliation? Reporter: Barbara Gruber Are the French becoming a nation of binge drinkers? It’s long been held up as the prime example of responsible drinking, but now France is coming into line with most of Europe as it seeks to curb alcohol abuse among young people. Binge drinking – usually more associated with the British and other northern Europeans – has increasingly been taking hold among the French. Now the National assembly has voted to raise the legal drinking age to 18 and restrict sales in service stations. It’s also approved a ban on so-called open bars – where drinks are unlimited for a fixed entry price. After protests from the wine lobby, the ban won’t affect wine tasting and there’s also to be more freedom to allow alcohol adverts on the internet. Report: Alasdair Sandford Calling time on Britain’s pubs? Responsible drinking is not something usually associated with Britain, but in the future locals might not have a choice. One the country’s great institutions – the local pub – is under threat. The watering holes are closing at an alarming rate as the recession bites. Higher taxes on beer, competition from supermarkets offering cut-price booze and the smoking ban are making a bad situation worse. Report: Lars Bevanger UK’s chief scientist warns 2030 is the cut off to avert climate crisis If the UK government's chief scientist is to be believed, then growing world population and climate change will cause a 'perfect storm' of food, energy and water shortages by 2030. Professor John Beddington says the problems will be
