Feb. 19 - Heavy snowfall continues to plague residents in Greece and lighter flakes blanket Israel. The snowfall, left behind by fierce snowstorms, kept schools in Greece closed on as dozens of villages and neighborhoods around the country and on the islands remained trapped under more than a meter of snow. Neighborhoods in Athens, which rarely see snow, were transformed into frozen white landscapes. Most bus routes were still canceled and authorities were scrambling to salt and clear roads as the fallen snow had turned to sheets of ice, causing traffic accidents. Many roads remained closed. In Jerusalem, parts of northern Israel, and hilly areas in the occupied West Bank were covered in a dusting of snow for the second time this season. Many cars stayed off the roads due to hazardous driving conditions. The Holy Land typically gets at least one snow storm a year.
