Aug. 16 - Heatwave sweeps across Japan leaving at least seven dead. Temperatures hit record highs in Japan as a heatwave sweeps the country, leaving several dead over the last few days. In several cities, including Kumagaya, just north of Tokyo, the mercury hit 40.9 degrees Celsius (105.6 Fahrenheit), topping the nation's previous record of 40.8 logged in 1933, the Meteorological Agency said.
