President Rajapakse has referred to the government’s dedication to prevent the spread of tuberculosis in the country. He made this reference in a message to mark World Tuberculosis Day today.. 7'O clock HeadlinesThe medical field in Sri Lanka had established a praiseworthy record by limiting the spread of the disease and raising public awareness on the disease while extending the required maximum relief. The President hoped that the attempts made by everyone to build a future Sri Lanka devoid of tuberculosis, would yield successful results. Mycobacterium tuberculosis is the bacterium that causes most cases of tuberculosis. It was first discovered on March 24th, 1882 by Robert Koch, who subsequently received the Nobel Prize in physiology or medicine for this discovery in 1905. Minister Nimal Siripala De Silva, at a news conference on World Tuberculosis Day said treatment for the disease was available at every hospital in the country. He said Sri Lanka could be described as a country, which receives optimum state mediation in the South Asian region for the combat of the disease.
