Jul 9 - Facing bankrupcy, the Italian flagship carrier loses an appeal against the European Commission regarding state aid. The European Court of Justice has rejected an appeal by Alitalia, confirming an EU decision on aid for the restructuring of the Italian airline in 2001. The European Commission said the case is unrelated to an investigation into a 300 million euro ($470 million) loan to the airline from the Italian government this year. Stefanie McIntyre reports.
