The Central Bank of Sri Lanka has introduced a Prosperity Index to measure the country’s development..  7'O clock HeadlinesThe official introduction took place at the BMICH under the patronage of Senior Presidential Advisor and Parliamentarian Basil Rajapakse and Central Bank Governor Ajith Nivard Cabral.                                              Basil Rajapakse said initially every indicator represented the country. The President’s desire is to uplift the standard of living of families and develop the village. Villages can achieve development in this manner.                                      The Central Bank Governor said they expect to raise awareness about this programme in the future, to show how their development should be brought about. If this task is successful, Mr. Cabral said ideal development can be achieved through Provincial Councils. Several benefits can be achieved with the prevalence of the Prosperity Index. It can measure the extent of benefits of development passed on to the Provinces, identify sectors that should be improved for regional development, identify the need of mediation to bring about prosperity in districts and Provinces, to assist the competitiveness in socio economic resources among Provinces and set up targets to achieve prosperity. Many senior officials of the Central Bank were present.
