Michael (Ajay Devgan) , Arjun (Vivek Oberoi) and Lallan (Abhishek Bachchan) are three young men in Kolkata , with different ideals and objectives . Michael is an idealistic youth leader who dreams of a better India being created by the youth power . Arjun is a self-centered , opportunistic , easygoing fellow whose objective is to immigrate to a developed country and make big money . Lallan is a goon who works for Prosenjit Chatterjee (Om Puri) , an immoral politician . Lallan is a criminal don, based in Calcutta. He loves, marries, and abuses his wife, Sashi Biswas; Michael Mukherjee is a student leader, who wants politicians like Prosonjeet Bhattacharya, to keep away from college elections; and then there is Arjun, carefree and spoilt, in love with Mira, who he just met, and who at one time wanted to relocate to the U.S., but then after meeting Michael, changes his mind and wants to be a politician. Kolkata is a big city in India. There is big bridge called the Hooghly bridge. One day there is an accident there. A group of people are involved in this accident, which is a cover-up for a murder. Among the people involved are a Government Minister; a youth leader named Michael; Lallan, who is a hoodlum, married to Sashi, but beats her up very regularly; Arjun wants to get rich quickly, and if he cannot rich in India, then he is willing to go overseas.
