Xena: Warrior Princess is an American television series program for Universal Television's Action Pack that was filmed in New Zealand. Produced by Pacific Renaissance Pictures Ltd (owned by Robert Tapert and Sam Raimi) in association with/distributed by Universal Studios, Xena aired from 1995 to 2001. The series program was a spin-off from Hercules: The Legendary Journeys, and many characters made appearances in both shows (including Kevin Sorbo in the episodes "Prometheus" and "God Fearing Child").
In Hercules, Xena was initially portrayed as a ruthless warlord. However, her encounter with Hercules reformed her. At the start of the series, she embarks on a quest to seek redemption of her past sins, using her formidable fighting skills to help people. In the first episode, she meets Gabrielle, who becomes her greatest ally. Gabrielle's initial naivete helps to balance Xena and assists her in recognizing the "greater good."
