Wood Harris, born Sherwin David Harris (born October 17, 1969), is an American actor who is perhaps best known for his roles as Avon Barksdale in the television drama The Wire and as Julius Campbell in Remember the Titans. He was born in Chicago, Illinois to John and Mattie Harris, and holds a Bachelors of Arts in Theater Arts from Northern Illinois University (NIU) and a Master of Arts from New York University. He is the younger brother of actor Steve Harris.
Born Sherwin David Harris in Chicago, Illinois to John and Mattie Harris. However, he works under his nickname, Wood. Attended New York University Graduate Acting Program at the Tisch School. Has performed in various stage productions including plays by August Wilson, William Shakespeare and Tennessee Williams. Wood or "little Sherwin" is the younger brother of 'Steve Harris', star of the ABC legal drama The Practice. Wood like his brother, splits his time between New York and California.
