Watching the Detectives is a 2007 romantic comedy film written and directed by Paul Soter. The film stars Cillian Murphy as the film geek owner of an independent video rental store whose life is turned upside down when femme fatale Lucy Liu comes into his life.
The film, which played film festivals in 2007, is slated for limited release in the U.S. in early 2008, but no firm date has been set yet. It went straight to DVD in Poland in mid-February.
Neil (Murphy), a self proclaimed film geek and owner of Gumshoe video, has always been content to live vicariously through his favorite film noirs. But when he meets Violet (Liu), a real-life femme fatale, his mundane world gets turned upside down and the line between reality and the movies quickly begins to blur.
