Voodoo People (Pendulum Remix)/Out of Space (Audio Bullys Remix) was the nineteenth single released by the British dance act The Prodigy on 3 October 2005 and the first single from their singles compilation Their Law: The Singles 1990-2005.
This double A-side single features two remixes, Voodoo People by Pendulum (which also had a music video) and Out of Space by Audio Bullys. These two tracks are on the second disc of the special edition version of Their Law. Pendulum & Audio Bullys recently accompanied The Prodigy on their 2005 UK tour.
The single's music video was directed by Ron Scalpello and featured several people running in a race blindfolded and with their hands bound while the members of the band were spectators. It is based on a scene from the Spanish movie Intacto. The winner of the race was Sharky, the only female to be a member of The Prodigy.
"Voodoo People" was the ninth single released by the British electronic act The Prodigy in August 1994. It was the third single from the album Music For the Jilted Generation and was released as a 12" single and its own EP in the United States through Mute Records.
The British release included a remix by the The Chemical Brothers who at that time called themselves "The Dust Brothers" in honour of an American producer duo of the same name. When "Voodoo People" was to be released in the States, and due to the British Dust Brothers' rising popularity, the American Dust Brothers threatened a lawsuit if they didn't change their name. The British duo changed their name to "The Chemical Brothers", and the remix on the American Mute release was renamed in accordance. A small sample in the remix was also reversed on the American release due to copyright issues.
The video was directed by Walter Stern and was filmed on location in Haiti. It shows Leeroy Thornhill as a Voodoo priest putting a spell on the other three members of The Prodigy using Polaroid photographs. Afterwards, Leeroy chases them until they arrive at a beach, apparently safe.
The music video for the Pendulum remix was directed by Ron Scalpello and featured several people running in a race blindfolded and with their hands bound while the members of the band were spectators. Most of the video displays the racers determination while hitting walls and/or getting hit by moving vehicles in a moving street. Keith Flint is also shown making some of the racers slip and fall, much to his delight. He also photographs some of the downed racers with a Motorola RAZR and sends the pictures to Liam Howlett. It is based on a scene from the Spanish movie Intacto. The winner of the race was Sharky, the only female to be a member of The Prodigy.
The main riff in the song is based on a sample of the Nirvana song "Very Ape" from their third studio album In Utero.
The song has been covered by Refused, as well remixed by Pendulum (see Voodoo People (Pendulum Remix)).
