Virginia Gregg Burket (March 6, 1916 - September 15, 1986) was an American actress.
Born in Harrisburg, Illinois, Gregg was a prolific radio actor, in addition to her work in film and television. She made three appearances on the TV series Alfred Hitchcock Presents. She is best known for her voice acting in the role of Norman Bates' mother in the movie Psycho. (She did the voice in the sequels Psycho II and Psycho III as well). Gregg died from lung cancer in Encino, California.
Virginia Gregg was one of the core of a dozen actors and actresses in the Dragnet company, Jack Webb utilized her in dozens of roles on both radio and TV versions of the show as well as the Dragnet 1954 movie, where she played the role of Evelyn Starkie, wife of the murder victim in one of her most emotional and convincing roles.
Provided the voice of the mother in Psycho (1960), Psycho II (1983) and Psycho III (1986).
Was one of the busiest radio actors in the business. Regular appearances on such radio shows as Dragnet, Nightbeat, The Lone Ranger and many more. Had extremely wide range, playing any female character. Was radio's female equivalent to William Conrad (I), Ben Wright (I) and Elliott Lewis (I).
Had three sons with her husband, Jaime Del Valle.
