Victoria Jackson (b. August 2, 1959, in Miami, Florida) is an American comedian and actress best known as a cast member of the NBC television sketch comedy series Saturday Night Live from 1986 to 1992.
Raised by devoted Christians in a home without a TV, she was trained in gymnastics by her gym-coach father from ages 5 to 18. Jackson attended a private Christian high school, Dade Christian School, where she was a cheerleader and the Homecoming Queen. Three years of gymnastics competitions led to a scholarship at Furman University in South Carolina. She also spent one year at Auburn University, before earning a degree in theatre from Palm Beach Atlantic University.
Appearing in summer stock in Alabama led to a chance meeting with Johnny Crawford (The Rifleman) who cast her in his night club act and gave her the ticket that brought her to Los Angeles. There she supported herself with various day jobs as a cigarette girl, a typist at the American Cancer Society and a waitress at a retirement hotel while she performed stand-up comedy. This resulted in her first big break, appearing on The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson doing what would become her signature bit: doing a handstand while reciting poetry. She would eventually appear on the show 20 times.
Victoria was raised in a Bible-believing, piano-playing, gymnastic home with no TV. Her dad was a gym coach so she competed in gymnastics from age 5 to age l8. Was a cheerleader, and a homecoming queen. Attended Florida Bible College; received gymnastic scholarship to Furman Univ., attended Auburn Univ. one year and ended up in Hollywood, California via summer-stock in Alabama, where she met Johnny Crawford (I) (of "Rifleman, The" (1958) fame). Crawford put her in his night club act, and later sent her a one-way ticket to the show-biz capital. Supporting herself as a cigarette girl and as a typist at the American Cancer Society, and waitress at a retirement hotel, she performed stand up comedy for 2 years until _The Tonight Show starring Johnny Carson_ (1962) put her act (which consisted of her doing a handstand while reciting poetry) on national TV. Following her 22 appearances with Johnny, she starred in many movies and TV shows, most notably "Saturday Night Live" (1975). In l99l she re-united with her high school sweetheart, married him, and moved to Florida where he's a police helicopter pilot. As a mother of two, homemaking is her priority now, but she's always available to perform ...if the price is right! She just recorded a children's album called "Ukelele Lady" by Choo Choo Records, available in record stores now. She's compiling an album of her original songs, i.e. "I Am Not A Bimbo", and Where Do You Draw the Line Between Love and Adultery?", to sell on the Internet. Recently she has guest-starred on sitcoms such as Naked Truth, The (1992) and "700 Club, The" (1966).
