The University of South Florida St. Petersburg (USFSP), commonly known as USF St. Petersburg or USF St. Pete, is an autonomous campus in the University of South Florida system, located in downtown St. Petersburg, Florida by the waterfront. Opened in 1965 as a satellite campus of the University of South Florida, the University of South Florida St. Petersburg gained accreditation as a separate entity starting with the 2006-2007 school year. USF St. Petersburg is not only the only public university in Pinellas County, it is also the only public university offering bachelors and graduate degree programs in that area. USF St. Petersburg currently enrolls over 3,900 students as of fall 2006.
USF St. Petersburg has three halls; Davis Hall, BayBoro Hall and Coquina Hall. The Florida Center for Teachers, the Florida Institute of Oceanography, the Florida Marine Research Institute and Salvador DalĂ Museum are located on campus. The Albert Whitted Airport is located to the left of the campus.
