"We are not wholly bad or good, who live our lives under Milk Wood" - prayer of the Rev Eli Jenkins from Under Milk Wood Under Milk Wood was originally a radio play and later a stage play and film by Dylan Thomas. The storyteller invites the audience to listen in on the dreams of the fictional small Welsh village of Llareggub (the name is "bugger all" spelt backwards, but appeared in print as Llaregyb so as not to offend), and their innermost thoughts and dreams are laid bare to us.
There is Mrs. Ogmore-Pritchard, relentlessly bossing her two dead husbands; Captain Cat reliving his seafaring times; the two Mrs. Dai Breads; Organ Morgan, obsessed with his music; Polly Garter pining for her dead lover. Later, the town wakes and we see them go about their daily business, aware of how their feelings affect whatever they do.
This is a delightful if peculiar story of a day in the life of a small, Welsh fishing village called "Llareggub" (read it backwards). We meet a host of curious characters (and ghosts) through the 'eyes' of Blind Captain cat. This is a true "Classic" of modern British writing with a wonderful, mischievous use of language. Written by Steve Crook
One night while the townsfolk wrestle with their dreams, seedy Captain Cat (Peter O'Toole) and a stranger walk the streets. Captain Cat is a blind, retired sea captain, recalling memories of drowned shipmates and Rosie Probert (Elizabeth Taylor), a whore and the one great love of his youth. Written by alfiehitchie
