"Trippin' on a Hole in a Paper Heart" (sometimes simply called "Trippin' on a Hole") is a song by Stone Temple Pilots, featured on their third album, Tiny Music... Songs from the Vatican Gift Shop. The core music was actually written by the band's drummer Eric Kretz, while the lyrics were written by Scott Weiland. Although many fans have different interpretations of the lyrics, Weiland directly stated in a radio interview that the very ambiguous and mysterious lyrics to the song actually alluded to a "very bad experience dropping acid." In 1997, it was nominated for Best Hard Rock Performance at the Grammy Awards.
The band has had 5 songs reach the number one position on the Mainstream Rock Tracks, "Trippin' on a Hole in a Paper Heart" was last song by the band to reach the top. The first was "Plush".
The song is featured in the video game Guitar Hero II.
