Total Request Live (commonly known as TRL) is the flagship television series on MTV that features popular music videos. TRL is MTV's prime outlet for music videos as the network continues to concentrate on reality-based programming. In addition to music videos, TRL features daily guests. The show is a popular promotion tool used by musicians, actors, and other celebrities to promote their newest works to the show's target teen demographic.

TRL plays the top ten most requested videos of the day, as requested by viewers who vote online for their favorite video. The countdown starts with the tenth most requested video and ends with the most requested. As of October 22, 2007, TRL's countdown is based on votes, charts, ringtones, download, radio airplay, streams, meaning that the most user requested video might not be the number 1 video. The show generally airs Monday through Thursday for one hour, though the scheduling and length of the show have fluctuated over the years. Despite the word "Live" in the title of the show, many episodes are actually pre-recorded.

Transport Research Laboratory (TRL) is a British centre for transport research, providing consultancy, advice and solutions for a wide range of transport related issues. Originally established in 1933 by the UK Government as the Road Research Laboratory (RRL), it was privatised in 1996.

TRL is commercially independent and is based in Crowthorne, Berkshire but also has offices in Scotland and Wales. To maintain its impartiality, TRL is owned by the Transport Research Foundation (TRF), a non-profit distributing foundation overseen by 80 sector members from the transport industry. Profits from TRL are invested in its own research programmes selected by the TRF to enhance knowledge in critical areas such as safety, environmental impact and sustainable development.

Key areas of work include road, network and vehicle safety, traffic management, planning and control, investigations and risk management, transport infrastructure, environmental assessment including work on climate change, noise and air pollution. In addition TRL has worked in developing countries for almost half a century, and acted as a resource centre for DFID providing learning materials for students, academics and engineers.
