Tonight's The Night is a "compilation musical" by comedian Ben Elton, based on the music of Rod Stewart. It opened in October 2003 at the Victoria Palace Theatre, and ran for just over a year. This production follows Elton's previous effort with We Will Rock You (musical)
A scaled down version of the musical toured the UK between February and July 2006, commencing at the Palace Theatre, Manchester. It was directed by C. Jay Ranger, with new sets, lighting, sound and costumes.
"Tonight's the Night (Gonna Be Alright)" is the name of a song written and recorded by Rod Stewart at Muscle Shoals Sound Studio in Muscle Shoals, AL for his 1976 album A Night on the Town. The song became his second US chart topper and charted well in other parts of the world as well. The song features whispers from Britt Ekland who was Stewart's girlfriend at the time.
The song is considered one of the stronger works on the subject of seduction. The singer is addressing a girl (later it states that she is a virgin) in which he demands she not do certain things, states some things he wants her to do, and tells her where she is to go and informs her of some of the things he wants to do with her. One particular line is a relatively blatant double entendre referring to having sex: :Don't deny your man's desire :Spread your wings and let me come inside 'cause The song has been remade by such notable artists as Linda Clifford and Janet Jackson and sung by Anthony Kavanagh and Alison Crawford on Grease is the Word.
In Jackson's cover, the lyrics imply that she and her partner are about to share a threesome with another woman. Indeed, Janet begins the song by saying, "This is just between me and you...and you." Additionally, each chorus addresses a different person, as she sings, "'Cause I love you, boy" in one and "'Cause I love you, girl" in another.
"Tonight's the Night" is the second single released by Little Birdy from their debut album BigBigLove. Like the other tracks on the album it was produced by Paul McKercher (You Am I, Pete Murray, Eskimo Joe, Augie March) at Big Jesus Burger Studios and mixed at Studios 301.
The single's title track proves Katy Steele's knack for penning Bacharach-esque hooks is undeniable .. they sound classic but not retro.
"The main thing that I wanted to do with this record was to have as much classic, memorable melody as possible. The songs are all based on feelings and emotion, for each song had a particular vision", said Katy. Accompanying the single is two remixes of Losing You and a demo of Forever - the original versions of which both appear on BigBigLove.
