The Tonight Show is NBC's long-running American late-night talk and variety show which has been hosted by Jay Leno since 1992. Now in its 54th season, The Tonight Show is the third longest-running entertainment program in U.S. television history (after the soap opera Guiding Light and Hallmark Hall of Fame).
The Tonight Show can date its origins to a local New York program called Broadway Open House, which started in 1950; its format can be traced to New York show hosted by Steve Allen and which premiered in 1953 on what is now WNBC-TV.
The longest-serving host to date was American comedian Johnny Carson who held sway over a 30-year run as the host of The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson.
A kinescope exists of the very first broadcast of The Tonight Show (then called simply, Tonight); Steve Allen welcomed viewers with the warning, "This show is going to last forever," referring to the running time. He has yet to be proven wrong.
"Tonight" is the title track from the album Tonight by David Bowie. It was originally co-written with Iggy Pop for the latter’s 1977 album Lust for Life.
Bowie re-recorded the song in 1984 for his new album, which also featured two new co-compositions with Pop (including Tonight’s B-side, "Tumble and Twirl") – causing some cynics to remark that the whole album was largely motivated by Bowie trying to earn some money for his friend. The original spoken word introduction of the 1977 version, establishing that the lyric is addressed to a lover dying of a heroin overdose, was excised for Bowie’s version, substantially changing the message of the song. Bowie claimed at the time that he didn’t want to inflict this reading on guest vocalist Tina Turner, though it’s also likely that this was to soften the song and make it more commercial.
UK Chart Run: 58- -59-64-94R(3)->5weeks in the Top100
Nevertheless, the reggae-flavoured song was a considerable flop, only reaching #53 in the UK singles charts (the first ‘current’ Bowie single to miss the top 40 since "Be My Wife" in 1976) at the same time its parent album was rapidly sliding down the album chart, however the single scored #1 in the Netherlands & Poland.
"Tonight" is a 1993 single by British hard rock band Def Leppard from their multi-platinum album Adrenalize. "Tonight" is the fifth single of the Adrenalize album. The song reached #13 on the Mainstream Rock charts, and #62 on the Billboard Hot 100.
Tonight is a song recorded by The Move.
Written by Roy Wood originally for pop vocal group The New Seekers in 1971. The Move's version was released as a single, their first release on the Harvest label, and charted at number eleven on the UK single charts. Jeff Lynne, who had joined the group the previous year, takes lead vocal on the second verse.
"Tonight" is a popular song.
The music was written by Leonard Bernstein, the lyrics by Stephen Sondheim. The song was published in 1956.
It was introduced in the Broadway musical, West Side Story.
"Tonight" is the second single from the album "It Doesn't Matter" by the band "The Underdog Project". The single is similar to their first hit "Summer Jam" from the same album. It includes a mix of 2-step, R&B, reggae and freestyle. The single was also well received in Europe, although it didn't have much airplay in the USA or UK.
"Tonight" is a song written and performed by Christian singer-songwriter Jeremy Camp. The song was the second radio single released in promotion of his fourth studio album, Beyond Measure. The single reached the #1 position on Billboard's Hot Christian Songs airplay chart.
Tonight is a single by Duluth, Minnesota slowcore group Low, released in 2004. It was released in formats of 12" single and maxi-single
