Tommy Tiernan is an Irish comedian, actor and writer, born 3 November 1970 in Carndonagh in County Donegal he spent the first 3 years of his life there before moving to Africa with his family. He often refers to his one eyed Indian friend in his set. He later returned to Ireland and attended school in Navan.

He won the Perrier Award at the Edinburgh Film Festival in 1998 and the British Comedy Award for `Best Stand Up' in the same year.
He has three children, Dylan, Jacob and Eve, by three different women.

When growing up in Navan, Co. Meath he used to spend his free time playing pool. He still plays today because it is a form of relaxation because he does not have to think while playing.
In a 10 minute documentary called the London Interview, he revealed that the only extravagant thing he has purchased with his wealth was a Pool table.

He started doing stand up comedy at the G.P.O club in Galway City, Ireland. He still does gigs there on occasions as a compere.
In 1998 he made his first appearence on The Late Late Show in Ireland. He caused such outrage with his sketch on the Crucifixion that many angry protesters arrived at R.T.E Studios to protest, before the show had finished. Tiernan was told not to go outside for his own saftey and was stuck inside the studios for a couple of hours.
He was the winner of the 1996 So you think you are funny.
When he won the 1998 Perrier Award he beat out stiff competition from two other highly successful comedians. They were Peter Kay & Ed Byrne.

As of 2005 he and fellow Navan man Dylan Moran are the only So you Think Your Funny Winners to go on to win The Perrier award during its entire 25 year run at the Edinburgh Fringe festival. As of 2006 they will be the only ones to do so under the name of the Perrier. It will now become known as the If.Comeddie Awards.
