The View are a four piece indie rock band from Dryburgh, a district in Dundee, Scotland. They have been active in the music scene since early 2005, supporting more renowned acts including Babyshambles, Primal Scream and The Undertones. The band initially based themselves at The Bayview pub in the Menzieshill district of Dundee, not too far from their native Dryburgh. From this pub, the band took their name. Their first mainstream recognition from local music promoters, as well as the general public, came following a move to The Doghouse in Dundee's city centre.
The band are currently signed to 1965 Records and their debut single, "Wasted Little DJs", was released on August 7, 2006. The single entered the MTV Two/NME charts on July 9, 2006, eventually reaching number one on August 13, 2006. On the same day, the song reached number 15 in the UK Singles Chart.
The View released their debut album Hats Off to the Buskers on January 22, 2007, which entered the UK Album Chart at number one the following week. It was nominated for the 2007 Mercury Music Prize.
