The Real Ghostbusters is an American animated television series based on the hit 1984 film Ghostbusters. The series ran from 1986 to 1991, and was produced by Columbia Pictures Television (now Sony Pictures Television), DiC Entertainment and Coca-Cola. "The Real" was added to the title over a dispute with Filmation and its Ghost Busters properties. The series continues the adventures of paranormal investigators Dr. Peter Venkman, Dr. Egon Spengler, Winston Zeddemore, Dr. Ray Stantz, their secretary Janine Melnitz and their mascot ghost Slimer.
There also were two ongoing Real Ghostbusters comics, one published monthly by Now Comics in USA and the other published weekly by Marvel Comics in the United Kingdom, and a popular toy line manufactured by Kenner.

In this animated update of the hit motion picture, the Ghostbusters are up to their same old tricks, keeping the city safe from demons, curses, spooks and every other off-the-wall weirdness known (and unknown) to mortal man. This time they have help from their old nemesis Slimer ("Onionhead"), a new arsenal of weapons, and an occasional assist from their faithful secretary Janine Melnitz. In 1988, the start of the fourth season, the series was part of a one-hour block of Ghostbusters cartoons (it was joined with the newly created "Slimer!" series) known as "Slimer! And The Real Ghostbusters." Written by Paul Rudoff
