Mask is a 1985 drama film directed by Peter Bogdanovich, and starring Cher and Eric Stoltz. Sam Elliott and Laura Dern are featured in supporting roles. Cher received the 1985 Cannes Film Festival award for Best Actress.
The film concerns the life and early death of Roy L. "Rocky" Dennis, a boy who suffered from craniodiaphyseal dysplasia, an extremely rare disorder known commonly as lionitis due to the disfiguring cranial enlargements that it causes.

The Mask is an action comedy film based on a series of comic books published by Dark Horse Comics. This film was directed by Chuck Russell, produced by Dark Horse Entertainment and New Line Cinema, and originally released to movie theatres in 1994. The Mask: The Animated Series is a television animated series based on the comic book superhero, The Mask, but with most of its inspiration from the 1994 film adaptation. The show ran for three seasons, from 1995 to 1997, and spawned its own short-run comic book series, Adventures of The Mask. John Arcudi, former writer of the original comics, penned two episodes of the cartoon. The entire film was shot on Super 8mm, but much of the footage was lost in the development process. Due to time restrictions preventing a re-shoot, b-roll miniDV footage was substituted. The surviving Super 8mm footage is visible in the opening sequence.
The original film was shot in the basement of the house that Christopher R. Jones and Adam Phaneuf were living in at the time.

After already suffering the loss of the Super 8mm footage, Ferguson faced another setback as his computer crashed while editing the night before the film was to be sent out to be included on the band's album. The second half of the film was re-cut in time to be included.
A young archaeologist believes he is cursed by a mask that causes him to have weird nightmares and possibly to murder. Before committing suicide, he mails the mask to his psychiatrist, Dr. Barnes, who is soon plunged into the nightmare world of the mask. Written by Jeff Hole
