The Little Hut is a 1957 comedy film made by MGM. It was directed by Mark Robson, produced by Mark Robson and F. Hugh Herbert, from a screenplay by F. Hugh Herbert, adapted by Nancy Mitford from the play La petite hutte by André Roussin. The cinematography was by Freddie Young and costume design by Christian Dior.
The script of The little hut was written by the French writer André Roussin (1911-1987), based on his own play La petite hutte(1947). Both play and script are, actually, a plagiarism of another play in Catalan, written by the novelist and playwright Carles Soldevila (1892-1967): Civilitzats tanmateix (Nevertheless civilized)(1921). This play was known in France much before the robbery of Roussin, through a translation by Adolphe de Faigairolle and Francesc Presas, published in 1927 in the magazine Candide.
The film starred Ava Gardner, Stewart Granger and David Niven with Walter Chiari and Finlay Currie. It was shot at the Cinecittà Studios in Rome.
Three persons, Susan and Philip Ashlow and Henry Brittingham-Brett are washed ashore on a deserted island after a shipwreck. Henry is Susan's lover. Since the island is filled with things to eat, they can concentrate on the love triangle between the men and the woman. Written by Mattias Thuresson
