The Last of the Mohicans is a 1920 film version of James Fenimore Cooper's novel with the same name. It tells the story of two English girls, trying to reach the fort where their father is commander, suffering danger in the frontier of the American colonies. It stars Wallace Beery, Barbara Bedford, Alan Roscoe, Lillian Hall, Henry Woodward, James Gordon, George Hackathorne, Nelson McDowell, Harry Lorraine, and Theodore Lorch. Both Boris Karloff and Béla Lugosi had uncredited roles as Indians.

The movie was adapted by Robert Dillon and directed by Clarence Brown and Maurice Tourneur.

There were other versions in 1911, 1932, 1936, 1977 and 1992, and a television miniseries in 1971.

In 1995, this film was deemed "culturally significant" by the Library of Congress and selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry.

The Last of the Mohicans is a 1992 historical epic film set in 1757 during the French and Indian War. It was directed by Michael Mann and based on James Fenimore Cooper's classic novel, although it owes more to George B. Seitz's 1936 film adaptation than the source novel. The main cast includes Daniel Day-Lewis, Madeleine Stowe, Russell Means, Wes Studi, Eric Schweig and Jodhi May.

The soundtrack features music by Trevor Jones and Randy Edelman, and a song by Clannad. The film won an Academy Award for Sound. The main theme of the movie is taken from the tune "The Gael" by Scottish singer-songwriter Dougie MacLean.

In the year 1756, Fort William Henry on Lake George is under siege by the French and Hurons under General Montcalm (William Stack.) Alice (Binnie Barnes) and Cora Munro (Heather Angel), young daughters of the British Commander, Colonel Muro (Hugh Buckler), set out from Albany to join their father at the fort. They are accompanied by Major Duncan Heyward (Henry Wilcoxin), who has loved Alice for a long time, and by a renegade Huron named Magua (Bruce Cabot.) He leads them astray with the view of betraying them into the hands of a wandering party of Hurons, but his plans are foiled by Hawkeye (Randolph Scott), a Colonial scout, when he and his comrades, Chingachgook (Robert Barrat) and his son Uncas (Phillip Reed), rescue the party and conduct them safely to the fort. Shortly after wards, Munro surrenders on honorable terms to Montcalm and is permitted to march out of the fort under arms and colors. He is then mortally wounded by Magua during a massacre by the Indians as the fort is being evacuated. The British troops enlist the help of local colonial militia men, who are reluctant to leave their homes undefended. A budding romance between a British officer's daughter and an independent man who was reared as a Mohawk complicates things for the British officer, as the adopted Mohawk pursues his own agenda despite the wrath of different people on both sides of the conflict.
