The Last Shot is a 2004 action comedy film starring Matthew Broderick, Alec Baldwin, Toni Collette, Tim Blake Nelson, an uncredited Joan Cusack, Tony Shalhoub, Ray Liotta and Calista Flockhart. The movie is written and directed by Jeff Nathanson, who wrote The Terminal and Catch Me if You Can.
Straight shooter agent Joe Devine has been assigned to cook up an elaborate scheme to take down infamous mob boss John Gotti. He assumes the role of a Hollywood producer and tells all the right lies to enlist a stooge to help execute his sting. He finds unsuspecting wannabe director Steven Schatz, who'd do just about everything to get the chance to direct a feature. Schatz falls hook, line, and sinker for the pitch, but what Devine doesn't tell Schatz is that the movie will never be made. Everything goes according to plan--until Devine and the suits at the Bureau start enjoying their new lives as Hollywood players a bit too much. Written by Sujit R. Varma
The film was made as part of the Boston 48 Hour Film Project. The film was written, cast, prepped, shot, edited, sound designed and scored all in 48 hours. The team learned what type of film they were to make at 7pm on Friday, April 8, and had to finish by 7pm Sunday, April 10. The team, 'Sleeping at Neverland,' shot at the editor's house, a local restaurant, and the sound mixer's apartment.
Production designer Eric Levesque and gaffer Damian Dydyn were pulled over by a policeman, who impounded Dydyn's car for an expired registration, late Friday night. Luckily, the whole scene was videotaped by assistant director Brian Christina.
