:The Great Outdoors is also a British Walking, Climbing and Mountaineering magazine. The Great Outdoors was an Australian travel magazine series broadcast on the Seven Network. Similar to its competitor Getaway, the program featured a team of reporters who travelled around Australia and the world reporting on travel destinations, tourist attractions and accommodation.
The program premiered on 5 February 1993 in a 30 minute format and was broadcast on Tuesday evenings at . In 2002, the show was expanded to 60 minutes and moved to the Monday timeslot, where it had stayed until 2006.
After suffering a gradual decline in ratings over the past few years, the show moved to a new timeslot of Saturdays from the 2007 season. On 28 April 2007, the show celebrated 600 episodes, making it one of the longest running programs on Australian television.
Unfortunately, after an additional 22 episodes, after its 600th, the show finally came to an end and was wrapped up on Saturday 29 September 2007. Repeats from 2002 onwards are now being shown on 7 HD, (in the one-hour format) weekdays from 3pm to 4pm.
Ironically, two of the presenters on the show went on to be Wheel of Fortune hostesses. Sophie Falkiner had been on the show for 5 years, followed by Laura Csortan who went on to host the show in 2006 after Sophie left for a short six month stint.

Big-hearted Chicago family man Chet has brought his family to a lakeside resort area, and although his wife and kids aren't quite as excited as he is, Chet has high hopes for the vacation. However, his optimism is sabotaged when his obnoxious brother-in-law Roman drops in unexpectedly, along with his snooty, strange family. Chet and his family try to stay open-minded, but they find it difficult to relax and enjoy themselves because of the constant annoyance of Roman's presence. Written by William Agee
Chicago resident Chester "Chet" Ripley, his wife Connie , and their two sons Buck and Benny are on vacation at a lake in Minnesota, where they have rented a two-story cabin. Not long into the vacation, the unexpected happens -- Connie's sister Kate, Kate's know-it-all husband Roman Craig, and Kate and Roman's twin daughters Mara and Cara crash the vacation. Roman proceeds to get on Chet's nerves -- so much that Chet is ready and willing to pack up and go home, even as teenager Buck tries to romance a local girl named Cammie. It turns out that the reason why Roman, Kate, and the twins crashed the vacation is because the Craigs are broke, and Roman was planning to borrow $25,000 from Chet. Written by Todd Baldridge
