The Garden of Eden (from Hebrew גַּן עֵדֶן ) is described in the Book of Genesis as being the place where the first man, Adam, and his wife, Eve, lived after they were created by God. This garden forms part of the creation story and theodicy of the Abrahamic religions.
The creation story in Genesis relates the geographical location of both Eden and the garden to four rivers (Pishon, Gihon, Tigris, Euphrates), and three regions (Havilah, Assyria, and Cush [often translated as Ethiopia] ). Eden's location remains the subject of controversy and speculation. There are hypotheses that locate Eden at the headwaters of the Tigris and Euphrates, in Mesopotamia, Africa, and the Persian Gulf, among others.
The phrase "Garden of Eden" is often used to describe any peaceful place, or a state of perfect happiness or bliss.
The Garden of Eden is the second posthumously released novel of Ernest Hemingway, published in 1986. Begun in 1946, Hemingway worked on the manuscript for the next fifteen years, during which time he also wrote The Old Man and the Sea, The Dangerous Summer, A Moveable Feast, and Islands in the Stream.
Toni Le Brun, a beautiful Viennese singer, becomes the ward of the wardrobe mistress of a Monte Carlo nightclub. Her benefactor, however, is actually a baroness incognito. Toni falls in love with the handsome Richard, but as they prepare to marry, she comes to believe he is only after the wealth accompanying her new noble status. But truth, like true love, will not be kept secret long. Written by Jim Beaver
Debut of R.G. Armstrong.
THE GARDEN OF EDEN is based on the Ernest Hemingway novel. Set in the jazz age years, prior to the depression, the story follows a successful young American writer, David Bourne (JACK HUSTON), and his beautiful new wife, Catherine (MENA SUVARI), on their extended honeymoon in Europe. Catherine soon becomes restless and starts to tests her husband's devotion, pushing him to the limits of her imagination. Already unsure of the games his wife is playing, David is both uncomfortable and curious when she brings a sultry Italian girl, Marita (CATERINA MURINO), to spice things up. As the erotic game reaches new levels, the events that follow will change their lives forever. Written by Katherine McCormack
