The Farmer's Daughter is a 1947 movie that tells the story of a farmgirl in an unnamed U.S. state (seemingly similar to Minnesota) who ends up working as a maid for a Congressman and his politically-connected mother. It stars Loretta Young, Joseph Cotten, Ethel Barrymore, Charles Bickford, Rose Hobart, Lex Barker, Keith Andes and James Arness.
The movie was adapted by Allen Rivkin and Laura Kerr from the play Juhani Tervapää, by Hella Wuolijoki. It was directed by H.C. Potter.
It won the Academy Award for Best Actress (Loretta Young) and was nominated for Best Actor in a Supporting Role (Charles Bickford).
The movie was based on the 1937 Finnish language movie, Juurakon Hulda.
In 1963, a television version was produced, starring Inger Stevens, Cathleen Nesbitt and William Windom.
Although the unnamed state in the film had at least fourteen seats in the House of Representatives (Morley represented the fourteenth district; Katie was elected to represent the thirteenth), Minnesota at the time had only nine seats in congress (and has never had more than ten).
The Farmer's Daughter is an American situation comedy series that was produced by Screen Gems Television and aired on ABC from September 20, 1963 to September 1966. It also enjoyed a brief run in syndication when it aired on CBN Cable in the 1980s.
In its first season, the series was nominated for four Emmy Awards in 1964, for Outstanding Continued Performance by an Actress in a Series (Stevens), Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Comedy, Outstanding Program Achievement in the Field of Comedy and Outstanding Writing Achievement in Comedy or Variety.

Impressed by her political awareness as well as her many charms and capabilities, Glenn is soon infatuated with Katie, and she with him, but their feelings remain unspoken...until Katie speaks up at a party rally and is abruptly thrust into politics herself.
