"The End" is a song by The Doors. Originally a song Jim Morrison wrote about breaking up with a long time girlfriend, it evolved through months of performances at Los Angeles' Whisky a Go Go into a nearly 12-minute opus on their self-titled album. The band would perform the song to close their last set. It was first released in January 1967.
"The End" was ranked 328 on Rolling Stone's list of The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time (2004).
"The End" is the penultimate song to appear on the album Abbey Road by The Beatles. Composed by Paul McCartney (credited to Lennon/McCartney), it was one of the last songs recorded collectively by all four Beatles, and is the final song of the medley that dominates side 2 of the LP version of the album.
