Batman is a 1989 superhero film based on the DC Comics character of the same name, and directed by Tim Burton. The film features Michael Keaton as Batman, as well as Jack Nicholson, Kim Basinger, Robert Wuhl, Pat Hingle, Billy Dee Williams, Michael Gough, and Jack Palance. The film is primarily known for depicting a darker and more serious version of the character rather than the more acknowledged Batman TV series from the 1960s. It takes inspirations seen by the work of Bill Finger and Bob Kane's stories from 1939.

Development phase for the film initially started as far back as the late 1970s, though due to creative differences on the project, it took roughly ten years to make the film. The film was shot almost entirely at Pinewood Studios and relied upon traditional stunts and miniatures for visual effects. Batman was both critically and commercially successful and garnered the sequel Batman Returns, as well as Batman Forever and Batman & Robin, though the last two were directed by Joel Schumacher rather than Burton. The film series would eventually be "rebooted" with Christopher Nolan's Batman Begins.

Batman (also known as its video-box title Batman: The Movie) is a 1966 film spin-off of the popular Batman television series, and was the first full-length theatrical adaptation of the DC Comics character. The 20th Century Fox release starred Adam West as Batman and Burt Ward as Robin.

The film was directed by Leslie H. Martinson who also directed a pair of Batman episodes; "The Penguin Goes Straight" and "Not Yet, He Ain't," both from season one.

As is the case (albeit reversed) with the 1989 Batman film (with Michael Keaton and Jack Nicholson), Batman: The Movie is often referred to as Batman '66 by fans, so as not to cause confusion.

Batman was a 15-chapter serial released in 1943 by Columbia Pictures.

The serial starred Lewis Wilson as Batman and Douglas Croft as Robin. J. Carrol Naish played the villain, an original character named Dr. Daka. Rounding out the cast were Shirley Patterson as Linda Page (Bruce Wayne's love interest), and William Austin as Alfred.

The film is notable for being the first filmed appearance of Batman. Also, the film introduced "The Bat's Cave". The name was altered to the Batcave for use in the comic books as well as the Grandfather's clock entrance. Also, the comic Alfred was overweight and clean-shaven prior to the serial's release. Austin was trim and sported a thin moustache. The comic Alfred's appearance was altered to match that of Austin's, and remains the same to this day.

In 2001, OnStar, DC Comics and Warner Bros. teamed up to promote the new OnStar onboard guiding system. Six television commercials featuring comic book superhero Batman were aired from 2001 to the beginning of 2002. Two of the commercials were directed by Vincent Ward. The special effects were provided by Flash Film Works.
