The Avengers was a British television series featuring secret agents in 1960s Britain. The programmes were made by TV company Associated British Corporation, and created by its Head of Drama Sydney Newman. It was an early example of the spy-fi genre, combining secret agent storylines with science fiction elements. Running from 1961 to 1969, it is the longest running espionage series produced for English-language television, though the American series Mission: Impossible had more episodes (171).
The Avengers is a 1998 film based on the British cult television series of the same name from the 1960s. The film was directed by Jeremiah S. Chechik. It starred Ralph Fiennes and Uma Thurman as secret agents John Steed and Emma Peel, and Sean Connery as Sir August de Wynter, a mad scientist bent on controlling the world's weather and blackmailing various governments for sun or rain. Patrick Macnee, the John Steed of the original series, makes a pseudo-cameo as the voice of Invisible Jones.
The Avengers: United They Stand (also known simply as The Avengers), was an animated series based on the Marvel Comics superhero team the Avengers. 13 episodes in length, it originally aired from October 30, 1999 to February 26, 2000, and was produced by Avi Arad and distributed by 20th Century Fox Television. The show is generally regarded as one of the worst Marvel cartoons of all time, and was canceled due to Marvel's bankruptcy of the late 1990s after only one season.
British Ministry agent John Steed, under direction from "Mother", investigates a diabolical plot by arch-villain Sir August de Wynter to rule the world with his weather control machine. Steed investigates the beautiful Doctor Mrs. Emma Peel, the only suspect, but simultaneously falls for her and joins forces with her to combat Sir August. Written by John Hawkinson
British secret agent John Steed teams up with scientist Emma Peel to investigate dramatic changes in the earth's climate. Under the direction of agency boss Mother - and apparently with Father's help - the trail quickly leads to kilted ex-agent August de Wynter who seems always to be ahead of the game. Peel and Steed have to work fast and closely if they are to save the world and themselves. Written by Jeremy Perkins
This series tells the stories of Marvel Comics greatest general membership superhero teams (as opposed to a family organization like the Fantastic Four or a minority group organization like the X-Men). Led by Hank Pym as Ant-Man and Janet van Dyne as the Wasp, they fight evil around the world and beyond against threats like Ultron. Written by Kenneth Chisholm
John Steed works for British Intelligence and always has a female partner. The problems he finds are always a bit odd, just on the edge of science fiction (Cyborg killers, a city built under a disused coal mine, a gang put together for adrenalin junkies, and a killer who uses a concentrated cold virus to kill his victims by having them sneeze to death). Steed is always the ultimate in culture and grace as he saves the world each week. Written by John Vogel
This classic series follows the adventures of John Steed and Emma Peel, two secret agents whose mission is to face the most mysterious and dangerous situations. Written by Chris Makrozahopoulos
