The Amazing Race is an American multiple Primetime Emmy Award-winning reality game show in which teams of two or four race around the world against other teams, with the first-place team winning $1,000,000. As the original version of the Amazing Race franchise, the CBS program has been running since 2001 and has completed twelve seasons, with a thirteenth currently in production. The show was created by Elise Doganieri and Bertram van Munster, who, along with Jonathan Littman, serve as executive producers. The show is produced by Earthview Inc. (headed by Doganieri and van Munster), Bruckheimer Television for CBS Paramount Television and ABC Studios (a subsidiary of The Walt Disney Company). The series is hosted by veteran New Zealand television personality, Phil Keoghan.

The series has been awarded a Primetime Emmy for Outstanding Reality-Competition Program every year since the category was created in 2003. Although it has moved around various prime time time slots, the program has averaged of ten million viewers per season.

The best of the reality series crop is back, with 12 teams of 2 players each racing around the world, trying not to be eliminated at a series of checkpoints in which the last team to arrive is booted from the show. CBS chooses teams with relationships containing at least some tension, especially when the situation involves intense pressure. The sixth season of The Amazing Race saw 11 teams race for $1,000,000 around the globe to 'amazing' locations including Iceland, Norway, Sweden, Senegal, Germany, Hungary, Corsica, Ethiopia, Sri Lanka, China and Hawaii. The contestants included five models, two professional wrestlers, spinning instructors, an ex-Playboy playmate and a former striptease aerobics instructor. However only the fastest were able to make it all the way around the world and win $1,000,000, and this season, it was Freddy and Kendra who won the big prize. Written by bondish

The fifth season of The Amazing Race saw 11 teams race for $1,000,000 around the globe to 'amazing' locations including Uruguay, Argentina, Russia, Egypt, Tanzania, the United Arab Emirates, India, New Zealand, the Philippines and Canada. The teams included identical blonde twins, bowling moms, dating models, a former Miss Teen USA, pizzeria owners, a former Big Brother star, and a dwarf. However only the fastest were able to make it all the way and win the cash prize, and after 29 days of competitiveness, stress and excitement, it was African-American couple Chip and Kim. One new twist introduced was the "yield," which a team could use once at any time to slow down someone behind them.
