The Alan Young Show (Wikipedia.org)

The Alan Young Show was a television series based on the popular Alan Young Show radio program and ran from 1950 until 1953. It starred Canadian/English actor Alan Young, later to become better-known for his starring role on Mister Ed, in a variety of comedy skits, a monologue, and songs by guest singers.

In 1953, the tone of the show changed, and, with the same title, the show was converted into a more conventional sitcom, with Young playing a bank teller, and actress Dawn Addams cast as his girlfriend and Melville Faber as his son. The show alternated weeks with The Ken Murray Show under the title Time to Smile. In the last two weeks of the season, the format returned to its earlier style, but it was cancelled at the end of the season. The Alan Young Show won two Emmys during its run. It can still be seen on TV4U.Com broadband network.

Alan Young (Wikipedia.org)

Alan Young (born November 19, 1919) is an actor best known for his television role opposite a talking horse, Mister Ed.

Born in North Shields,Tyne and Wear, England, with the given name Angus Young, he was raised in Edinburgh, Scotland and in Canada. He grew to love radio when bedbound as a child because of severe asthma and became a radio broadcaster on the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation. In 1944, he made the leap to American radio with The Alan Young Show, NBC's summer replacement for Eddie Cantor. Following a move to ABC two years later, he returned to NBC.

His television version of The Alan Young Show began in 1950. After the show's cancellation, Young appeared in supporting parts in films such as The Time Machine. His most popular venture, however, was Mister Ed, a CBS television show which ran from 1961 to 1966. He played the owner of a talking horse which would talk to no one but him.

In later life he founded a broadcast division for the Christian Science church and did animation voices. He was the voice of Scrooge McDuck for many Disney films and on the popular cartoon series DuckTales from 1987 to 1990. In Mickey's Christmas Carol, he portrays the character's miserly namesake. He also provided the voice of Jack Allen on the Focus on the Family radio drama, Adventures in Odyssey and voiced Hiram Flaversham in Disney's The Great Mouse Detective. His other cartoon voice appearances include Camp Lazlo, Megas XLR, Static Shock, House of Mouse, The Ren & Stimpy Show, Duckman, Batman: The Animated Series, TaleSpin, The Smurfs, The New Scooby-Doo Mysteries and Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends.

His television guest appearances include The Love Boat, Murder, She Wrote, St. Elsewhere, Coach, Party of Five, The Wayans Bros., Sabrina, the Teenage Witch, USA High, Hang Time, ER and Maybe It's Me.

In 1993, Mr. Young recreated his role as Filby for the mini-sequel to George Pal's classic The Time Machine reuniting him with Rod Taylor, who played George the Time Traveller. It was called Time Machine: The Journey Back directed by Clyde Lucas.

In 1997, he did the voice of Haggis McMutton in the PC game Curse of Monkey Island.

In 2000, he read H. G. Wells's The Time Machine for 7th Voyage Productions, Inc.

In 2002, he had a cameo as the flower store worker in Simon Wells' remake of The Time Machine

Currently, Alan Young voices the character of Jack Allen on the Focus on the Family audio series Adventures in Odyssey.

The Alan Young Show (imdb.com)

Hosted by and starring veteran radio comedian Alan Young, this program entertained viewers in a less physical, more intellectual style than Milton Berle, Abbott and Costello or other comedy programs. The show typically began with a monologue by Young, followed some musical numbers, then moving on to a pair of comedy skits. The show, unfortunately, failed to become as popular as its competitors, and it was cancelled in 1953. Written by Jean-Marc Rocher

Alan Young (I) (imdb.com)

Alan Young was born in Northern England in 1919, but his Scots father moved the family to Edinburgh, Scotland, when Young was a toddler and then to Canada when Young was about 6 years old. As a boy, he suffered from severe asthma, which kept him bedridden for long periods of time but encouraged his love of radio. By age 13, Young had become a radio performer, and by age 17, he was writing and performing in his own radio show for the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation. The show was broadcast in the U.S. and led to an invitation to New York, initiating Young's career as an "All-American boy," despite his non-American origins and a vestigial Scots accent. He became popular on American radio from 1944 to 1949 with his "Alan Young Radio Show," but when radio began to lose its popularity and his show was canceled, Young decided to put together a comedy act and tour the U.S. theater circuit. After this experience, he wrote a television pilot for CBS in 1950, which resulted in "Alan Young Show, The" (1950). The show was a well-received live revue that ran for 3 years, earned a couple of Emmy Awards, and garnered Young a star on the "Walk of Fame." However, the strain of writing and performing a weekly show got to Young, and the quality of the show declined, leading to his departure from the show and its cancellation. In the meantime, based on his popularity on radio and television, Young had established a film career, starting with his debut in Margie (1946) followed by Chicken Every Sunday (1949), Mr. Belvedere Goes to College (1949), Aaron Slick from Punkin Crick (1952), Androcles and the Lion (1952), Gentlemen Marry Brunettes (1955), tom thumb (1958), and Time Machine, The (1960). In the early 1960s, Young landed his best-known role, Wilbur Post, in the popular television series "Mister Ed" (1961), which ran for 5 years. Since then, Young has made a number of television and film appearances but is known primarily for his voice characterizations in cartoons, especially as Scrooge McDuck in "DuckTales" (1987).
