Texasville is a 1990 American film directed by Peter Bogdanovich. It is a sequel to The Last Picture Show, and is based on the book of the same name by Larry McMurtry.
The story focuses on Duane Jackson (Jeff Bridges), now in his forties as the wealthy tycoon of a suffering oil company, and his relationship with his family. He's got a wife (Annie Potts) who believes the mild-mannered Duane is cheating on her (which he is); a son (William McNamara) who seems to be following in his father's libidinous footsteps; and grandchildren. In addition to this dysfunctional family are Anarene's other town folk who have never moved beyond its boundaries, including Ruth Popper (Cloris Leachman), now working as Duane's dry-witted secretary; a despondent Lester Marlow (Randy Quaid), now a businessman who seems prime for a heart attack; and Duane's distant best friend Sonny Crawford (Timothy Bottoms), whose behavior lately has caused Duane concern over Sonny's mental health. Reentering the picture is Jacy Farrow (Cybill Shepherd) who has traveled the world and experienced a painful tragedy that has brought her back to Anarene to settle in for good.
Summer, 1984: 30 years after Duane captained the high school football team and Jacy was homecoming queen, this Texas town near Wichita Falls prepares for its centennial. Oil prices are down, banks are failing, and Duane's $12 million in debt. His wife Karla drinks too much, his children are always in trouble, and he tom-cats around with the wives of friends. Jacy's back in town, after a mildly successful acting career, life in Italy, and the death of her son. Folks assume Duane and Jacy will resume their high school romance. And Sonny is "tired in his mind," causing worries for his safety. Can these friends find equilibrium in middle age? Written by
