Tarzan (Wikipedia.org)

Tarzan, a fictional character created by Edgar Rice Burroughs, first appeared in the novel Tarzan of the Apes (magazine publication 1912, book publication 1914), and then in twenty-three sequels. He is the son of a British Lord and Lady who were marooned on the West coast of Africa by mutineers. Tarzan's parents died when he was an infant, and he was raised by the Mangani, Great Apes of a species unknown to science. Kala is his ape mother. Tarzan (White-skin) is his ape name; his English name is John Clayton, Lord Greystoke (according to Burroughs; Earl of Greystoke in later, non-canonical sources, notably the 1984 movie Greystoke). As a young adult, he meets Jane Porter who, with others of her party, including her father, is marooned at exactly the same spot on the African coast where Tarzan's parents were marooned roughly twenty years earlier. When she returns to America, he leaves the jungle in search of her, his one true love. In later books, Tarzan and Jane marry and he lives with her for a time in England. They have one son, Jack, who takes the ape name Korak the Killer. Tarzan is contemptuous of the hypocrisy of civilization, and he and Jane return to Africa.

It was also the first Disney animated feature to open at #1 since The Lion King.

Tarzan (musical) (Wikipedia.org)

Tarzan is a stage musical based on the Disney film of the same name and the story by Edgar Rice Burroughs. The music is composed by Phil Collins, and the book by David Henry Hwang. Designed and directed by Bob Crowley, the production was choreographed by Meryl Tankard with Aerial Movement by Pinchon Baldinu, with lighting design by Natasha Katz and sound design by John Shivers.

The musical opened at the Richard Rodgers Theatre on Broadway on May 10, 2006, making it the only Disney Theatrical production without an out-of-town tryout. Danton Burroughs, grandson of Edgar Rice Burroughs, attended the opening night gala. This production was nominated for a Tony award for Best Lighting Design of a Musical (Natasha Katz). Due to poor reviews and ticket sales, the show closed on July 8, 2007 after 35 previews and 486 performances.

Tarzan (1966 TV series) (Wikipedia.org)

Tarzan aired on NBC from 1966 – 1968. The series portrayed Tarzan (played by Ron Ely) as a well-educated character, one who, tired of civilization, had returned to the jungle where he had been raised. The show retained many of the trappings of the classic movie series, including Cheeta, while excluding other elements, such as Jane, as part of the "new look" for the fabled apeman that producer Sy Weintraub had introduced in previous motion pictures starring Gordon Scott, Jock Mahoney, and Mike Henry. CBS aired repeat episodes the program during the summer of 1969.

Tarzán (Wikipedia.org)

Tarzán was a half-hour syndicated series that aired 1991–1994. In this version of the show, Tarzan was portrayed as a blond environmentalist, with Jane turned into a French ecologist.

Ron Ely, famous for playing Tarzan in the original series, played a character named Gorden Shaw in the first season episode “Tarzan the Hunted”.
