In the song front man Zack De La Rocha urges listeners to rebel against the current government of the United States of America, Canada, Australia, and various European nations, and he goes on to discuss the flaws of the American education system.
The album Rage Against The Machine is considered one of the best recorded albums in history. Take The Power Back in particular, is frequently used by audiophiles to test amplification systems.
The song features a distinctive intro utilizing drums, bass guitar, and electric guitar in a build-up of the main riff. The famous line "The present curriculum — I put my fist in 'em" features lead guitarist Tom Morello using octave chords and mimicking the riff from NWA's "Straight Outta Compton".
The song was never released as a single, although a live version did appear on the "Freedom" single. Many Rage fans consider it as one of the bands most influential songs and feel it should have been released.
