"Sway" is the English version of "Quién Será", a 1953 Latin pop song with a mambo beat written by Mexican composer and bandleader Pablo Beltrán Ruiz. In 1954 the English lyrics were written by Norman Gimbel and recorded by Dean Martin (this recording reached number fifteen on the Billboard magazine best-seller chart and number six on the UK chart). Since then the song has been recorded and remixed by many artists (see discography below).
The English version of the popular song begins with the words "When marimba rhythms start to play, dance with me, make me sway".
"Sway" is a 1997 New Zealand music single by Bic Runga. It appeared on her first album, Drive, and it was featured in the 1999 film American Pie. It was released in 1998 in Germany, Australia, and twice in the United Kingdom. It was also released in the United States. An acoustic version of the song can be found on the charity album Even Better than the Real Thing Vol. 2.
"Sway" is a song by the English rock 'n roll band The Rolling Stones from their 1971 album Sticky Fingers.
Credited to Mick Jagger and Keith Richards, "Sway" was the first song recorded by the band at Stargroves. It is a slower blues song, thought by many to allude to the deaths of friends and companions from the rock and roll lifestyle. Although the song is credited to Jagger/Richards, Mick Taylor has always stated that he wrote this song with Mick Jagger, as well as Moonlight Mile from the same album.
The song features a bottle neck slide solo towards the middle of the song and a dramatic outro solo performed by Mick Taylor. The strings on the piece were arranged by Paul Buckmaster, who also worked on other songs from Sticky Fingers.
It was performed to much surprise at many of the shows on the band's A Bigger Bang Tour in 2006. Guns N' Roses also performed the track on a handful of occasions during 2006, when founding member Izzy Stradlin guested with Axl Rose. Izzy handled lead vocals during the performances.
