} Suede (or The London Suede in the USA) were an English rock band of the 1990s and the early 2000s that helped start the Britpop musical movement of the decade. Through their several incarnations, they were able to consistently put out albums that charted well, while still holding the respect of critics. Though they never achieved great success in North America, they were considered by some to be as big in the UK in the 90s (at least in terms of popularity) as The Smiths were in the 80s, or Roxy Music in the 70s. blank">http://www.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&sql=11:kroibks9hakz~T10 In 1993, Suede won the _Mercury Prize.
Suede is an American pop, cabaret and jazz singer. She was born in Nyack, New York and went to high school in Severna Park, Maryland. She began playing music in high school, getting bar gigs before she even graduated. She lived in Baltimore for the majority of the 80's and became a fixture at many local clubs. Suede's popularity in the adult contemporary circles steadily increased and she began playing sold-out shows in some of the US's most respected concert halls. She successfully sued the British band, Suede for the rights to the name, meaning that the band's subsequent albums were released in the US under the name "The London Suede". In addition to being a vocalist, Suede plays many instruments; trumpet, piano, and guitar. She currently lives in Cape Cod.
