The Honourable Susan Frances Harmar Nicholls (born 23 November, 1943 in Walsall, Staffordshire) is an English actress, most known today for her long-running role as Audrey Roberts on Coronation Street.
Educated at the School of S. Mary and S. Anne (now known as Abbots Bromley School for Girls), and a graduate of the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art, she first became known as Marilyn Gates on the soap Crossroads, a role she played from 1964 to 1968. A song she first sang on the programme, Where Will You Be?, charted on July 3, 1968, eventually reaching #17.
She was also popular in the role of the secretary, Joan Millbeck (formerly Webster, née Greengross), in the sitcom The Fall and Rise of Reginald Perrin and its sequel The Legacy of Reginald Perrin (1996), as well as gaining popularity amongst legions of younger TV viewers for her roles as Nadia Popov in the popular Rentaghost and Mrs Muddle in Pipkins TV series.
However, it is the role of Audrey that has been her most enduring. She has been on the programme since April 1979. Her husband, Mark Eden, acted alongside her on Corrie (he played Alan Bradley).
Her father was Lord Harmar-Nicholls, former Conservative MP for Peterborough (1950-1974) and MEP for Greater Manchester South (1979-1984).
Her father, Sir Harmar Harmar-Nicholls (1912-2000), was made a Baron in 1975. Sue then automatically became "The Honourable Miss Harmar-Nicholls".
She met her husband actor Mark Eden (I) at a party in 1983, and they married ten years later. He later starred as baddie Alan Bradley in "Coronation Street" (1960) with Sue.
In 1968, Sue released a record called Where Will you Be? which peaked at number 17 in the UK charts.
