Stephen C. Miner (born June 18, 1951) is an American film and television director.
Miner was born in Westport, Connecticut or Chicago, Illinois. Television programs Miner has directed include The Wonder Years, Jake 2.0, Felicity, Dawson's Creek (including the pilot and four of the other episodes of the first season), and Diagnosis Murder. However, Miner first made his big splash as an associate-producer on the 1980 smash hit, Friday the 13th . He would go on to successfully direct the following sequels, Friday the 13th Part 2 and its 3D sequel Friday the 13th Part 3. To this day, Steve Miner is the only director to direct more than one film in the Friday the 13th series. In 1986, he directed the horror comedy House which featured his real life son playing a kid who the main character (played by William Katt) must protect from monsters. In later years, Miner would direct Halloween H20: 20 Years Later, and Lake Placid.
Miner recently wrapped production on Day of the Dead, a remake to the George Romero film same name. First Look ("Ed Gein," "Half Light," "Aqua Teen Hunger Force: The Movie") has picked up the Day of the Dead remake and plans to open it on 500 screens. The update of George A. Romero’s 1985 film stars Ving Rhames, Mena Suvari, Nick Cannon and 2001 MANIACS’ Christa Campbell, and was penned by Jeffrey (Final Destination) Reddick.
Steve Miner is not one of Hollywood's most popular directors, but has had a very popular career in making films and remains one of Hollywood's most prolific directors and has worked with a variety of stars that includes Jamie Lee Curtis, Leslie Nielsen, C. Thomas Howell, Tom Arnold (I), Rick Moranis, and Bill Pullman. Before becoming a director, Miner worked as an editor for Wes Craven and Sean S. Cunningham on several occasions, helping bring the notorious rape/murder film Last House on the Left, The (1972) to the screen. He worked for Cunningham again in 1980 on Friday the 13th (1980) as an associate producer. The following year he was hired to direct its sequels Friday the 13th Part 2 (1981) and Friday the 13th Part III (1982). Miner also directed the comedy, Soul Man (1986) and moved onto a serious drama Forever Young (1992) in 1992. Returning to comedy with Rick Moranis and Tom Arnold (I), he made Big Bully (1996) and returned back to horror with the very successful Halloween H20: 20 Years Later (1998) and the under water/comedy thriller Lake Placid (1999). His recent film Texas Rangers (2001) with young upcoming Hollywood stars isn't bad either. Nearly all films have been successful and/or a box office hit.
